Depute Provost Campbell presents Keiran with his award

Keiran Guglielmucci was named Cumnock's Young Citizen of the Year at a special awards ceremony held earlier this week.

The 17-year-old has shown a strong commitment to enhancing the lives of others. He bakes cakes for the local residential homes for older people and regularly pops in for a chat to brighten their day. He also works with first year students who have additional support needs at the Supported Learning Centre in Cumnock Academy.

In his role as peer helper, Keiran has also led the students in various sporting activities, organising potted sports, football, indoor curling, team games and basketball. This has enabled students to develop their sporting skills, as well as improve their self-esteem.

As if he wasn't busy enough with all that, Keiran has also been actively raising money for the charity CLIC Sargent. He has planned a sponsored parachute jump and bungee jump for this year and is currently trying to get as many sponsors as possible from the local community.

Depute Provost John Campbell presented Keiran with his award and said: "Everyone who knows Keiran thinks that he is a lovely, enthusiastic, friendly young man who is a credit to himself and an asset to the Cumnock community. I have no doubt that a very bright future awaits Keiran and I would like to wish him luck and success in all he does."
