Smith Jailed For Murdering Diane and Holly

A sex offender has been jailed for 32 years for murdering a Cronberry mother and daughter.

Thomas Smith, 26, of Riverside Gardens Cronberry, near Cumnock, lived next door to Diane Fallon, 43, and her little girl Holly, 10.

He showed no emotion as he was led away to begin his sentence.

Diane and Holly were last seen on the evening of March 28, 2009. After three days missing staff a St John's Primary raised the alarm when Holly failed to show for classes. Their bodies were discovered 11 days later following a police search.

Smith pleaded guilty to the charges at the High Court in Glasgow today. The court heard that Smith was on the sex offenders register after a sexual offence on another 10-year-old girl in Teeside in Northern England in 2006.
