A first for Cumnock as Farmer's Market comes to town
The best of home produced food will be coming to Cumnock this summer as Town Centre Manager Kathryn Howell launches the first monthly Farmers' Market.
As Kathryn explains: "Cumnock's regeneration is gathering pace with improvements to the town centre. We've now got a great venue for a Farmers' Market. The Square really lends itself to a market with the backdrop of the Mercat Cross, Old Cumnock Old Church and the cobbled centre. This series of monthly summer markets will offer the best in local produce from venison and beef, to Isle of Arran Cheese, seasonal fruit and vegetables and local crafts."
Councillor Jim Buchanan, East Ayrshire Council spokesperson for Community Regeneration said: "As part of our plan for Regeneration in Cumnock it's great to see our spruced up centre restart an old tradition in its original setting. This new Farmers' Market will encourage more shoppers and visitors into the town centre. At the same time it provides a great opportunity for local producers to sell their wares and build up contacts with local customers, helping the local economy and cutting food miles. This will be a great boost for Cumnock and is all part of our campaign to encourage people to support their local high street and traders."
The market will run on Friday 27th May in the Square, Cumnock from 10.00am until 3.00pm. Thereafter it is planned to run on the fourth Friday of every month until 23rd September. For more information contact Kathryn Howell at the Cumnock Town Centre Regeneration Office on 01290 429350
