THE Cumnock and Doon Valley, Community Learning and Development Team recently held their annual presentation of certificates.
Awards were presented to all the learners present at the ceremony and demonstrated the range of learning opportunities available including family learning, youth work, literacy and numeracy, computing, parenting and personal development.
Councillor Iain Linton, depute leader of the council, said: "An incredible 549 certificates were presented on the night to a very wide range of learners.
"A number of young people were presented with Youth Achievement Awards in recognition of their hard work in a variety of youth work programmes.
"Their achievements demonstrated the valuable contribution that youth work is making to A Curriculum for Excellence."
Frances Jones, Essential Skills Project volunteer tutor and Anne Lochrie, a Muirkirk learner, were also recognised for their recent nomination for a Scotland's Learning Partnership Award and one of the highlights of the evening was a presentation by Brian Johnstone, an Essential Skills Learner, who spoke of his learning journey and the impact this has had on his personal development.
Cllr Linton added: "This was a very uplifting event and showed that community learning and development have learning opportunities available for people of all ages and abilities.
"Learning opportunities like this are often first steps back into learning and can help people to achieve their individual learning goals."
Learners, partners and invited guests in attendance were entertained by the Cumnock Amateur Musical Production Society, with an extract from their forthcoming show The King and I.
