A Cumnock cop has blasted the "caveman mentality" of domestic abusers over the festive season.
And Inspector Jim Drennan warned that the "dark age" attitudes would not be tolerated in 2009. Twenty-two incidents of domestic violence were dealt by Cumnock and Doon Valley Officers during the Christmas and New Year period.
Inspector Drennan said: 'Family tensions tend to be higher at this time of year but this is a wholly unacceptable level of violence.'
Susanne Russel, Co-ordinator of East Ayrshire Woman"s Aid based in Cumnock described the figures as "absolutely horrendous."
She said: 'We haven"t seen an impact on this kind of level but that"s not to say we won"t. It"s usually mid to late January that we see an increase in the women coming to us.
