AUCHINLECK TALBOT'S crunch tie against one of their Premier Division title rivals has been called off, the club has announced.

Talbot - who have won 11 of their last 12 league fixtures to move into contention for the championship - had been due to travel to East Ayrshire rivals Darvel tonight (Wednesday, March 27).

But the club announced on Wednesday morning that the match had been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch at Recreation Park.

Talbot would have been going into the match on a high following their dramatic 4-3 win over St Cadoc's on Saturday.

The Beechwood Park side currently sit 10 points behind leaders Clydebank, who have played six more games than Talbot.

Talbot currently sit on 38 points from 20 games, while St Cadoc's remain third after with 39 points from 23 games.

Reigning champions Beith are second, on 40 points from 20, with Talbot due to face Beith at Beechwood on Saturday, March 30 in a game that's widely expected to have a major influence on the title run-in.

A rearranged date for Wednesday's match will be announced in due course - though the postponement will add to an already hectic run-in for Tommy Sloan's men.

Both Talbot and Darvel are going for glory on three fronts - the Junior Cup, the West of Scotland Cup and the Premier Division - with Talbot having 10 league games left to play as well as at least three cup ties.

Talbot and Darvel will also lock horns in the two-legged semi-final of the Junior Cup, with the first leg at Beechwood Park on Friday, April 12 and the return leg at Recreation Park seven days later.
