This week, we take a look back at the big stories and photos from the Cumnock area from 20 years ago.
Who can you spot in these pics from February 2004?
Cumnock’s Alan Wilson was named Young Citizen of the Year 2014. The 17-year-old was given the award for his outstanding contribution to sport and music. Ross, bottom left, is pictured with fellow nominees Nicola Reid, Ian Reid and Adele Johnstone as well as committee chair Dr Ross Adams.
The Muirkirk Parent and Friends Group received a £2,000 grant from the East Ayrshire Social Inclusion partnership. The group had been set up in 2002 to raise money for both the nursery and primary classes and the grant would help provide new gym equipment.
MSP Cathy Jamieson gave her support to New Cumnock’s Castle Primary School Board, who were campaigning for better road safety measures around the building, including speed bumps, in 2004. She is pictured with Councillor Jimmy Carmichael, School Board chairman Billy Hastie and head teacher Lynn Ross along with two pupils.
Pupils at Ochiltree Primary donned their tartan outfits and celebrated the birthday of Scotland’s National Bard in 2004.
Mauchline and District Young Farmers went back to the 80s in 2004 for their annual concert at Ayr’s Gaiety Theatre.
Sorn Primary School celebrated the tremendous success of their HMI report in February 2004. They enjoyed a day of culture at a Celtic Connections concert at the Royal Concert Hall. Evan Young, P3 and Georgia Rowe, P5 were joined by their fellow pupils as they cut their celebratory cake.
