PUPILS of P7 at Auchinleck Primary are raring to go for this year’s newspaper production.

Called Auchinleck All Stars, it is written and produced by the talented youngsters, who also provide their own photography.

They are well on the road to becoming reporters if the Chronicle’s visit to their class is anything to go by.

Every day starts with a session, News Hounds, which is a test of how well everyone was paying attention to the previous night’s Newsround on children’s TV.

There is a competitive element to the questioning as the pupils and staff compete for points.

When it came to firing questions to myself, there is no doubt that this group will become an excellent editorial team.

Questions came thick and fast, with no prompting from class teacher, Hazel Roddy.

“How many words will we write?

“How often will we send stories in?

“How many pages will we have to write?

“Do we send in stories about the whole school?”

With many of the pupils taking part in sport, they will also be sending in regular updates from the various teams involved.

As well as school events, they were also advised to report on community events in and around the school’s catchment area.

If they want to pass an opinion on things that affect them directly, they can do so as, after all, it is a school newspaper.

Having given the class their first deadline, the last piece of advice was ‘ask lots of questions’ but they had already showed that they had that skill in abundance.
