A MEETING took place in Auchinleck to set up a steering group in connection with the East Ayrshire Coalfields Partnership.
Set up with National Lottery Heritage funding, the project’s aims are to ‘share the benefits of a renewed landscape, welcoming visitors to celebrate their unique heritage and promote stewardship of the land, shaped by understanding of the past and needs of the future.’
Unfortunately, the area which has been selected by the funders does not include Glenbuck and three of the campaign group left the meeting along with community representatives of Sorn and Catrine.
Project supervisor Colin McDonald and Project Officer Lynne Easton explained that the funders might decide to include these areas in future but, either way, what happens will affect all communities in East Ayrshire.
