THE Met Office have issued an amber be prepared warning for strong winds on Wednesday.

Storm Ali is set to to bring a very windy spell of weather with potential gusts of 65-75mph in Cumnock, Doon Valley and Upper Nithsdale from 8am.

Commuters are being warned to expect delays and possible cancelations on public transport.

Some roads may be closed and there is the potential for power cuts which may affect other services including mobile phone coverage.

The Met Office's warning reads:"Storm Ali will bring a spell of very strong winds to Northern Ireland from early on Wednesday morning, before these strong winds spread to far northwest England and central and southern Scotland by late morning.

"Strong winds will be accompanied by heavy squally showers. Some areas, especially high ground and coastal regions, including within the Central Belt, could see gusts of 80 mph at times. Winds will ease from the west through the afternoon."
