DEBRIS including a dog bed, car mats and a carpet were found clogging up a fish pass at Catrine Dam.
Fish passes are crucial to the river’s ecosystem and the Ayrshire Rivers Trust (ART) were quick to clear the blockage when they came across it on Sunday, August 19.
The trust took to Facebook to highlight what had happened. Their post read: “I nipped over to see Catrine Dam this evening and noted the fish pass appeared blocked.
“I’ve no way of telling how long the flow had been reduced but knowing there would be fish wanting to run, I couldn’t leave it for Catrine Community Trust to address in the morning.
“I pulled the usual branches and debris from the entrance but also a dog bed, car mats and carpet. The river is a dumping ground for people who just don’t care.”
