CUMNOCK MP Bill Grant has been caught napping in Parliament.

The former South Ayrshire councillor took a “wee nap” during a session of questions to the housing, communities and local government minister James Brokenshire on Monday, July 23.

Conservative MP Mr Grant defend his actions after a member of the public contacted us on Twitter.

Jess K posted on the social media site: “Our MP Bill Grant falling asleep in the chamber again today? Oh wait, sorry, that’s his ‘listening intently face’ isn’t it?”

However, the Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock MP later revealed he had had a ‘very long day’.

Mr Grant said: “I got up in Ayr at 5.15am, boarded the 6.10am X77 to Glasgow and flew – on the cheapest route – to London.

“It’s the first time I’ve flew to London and I arrived at about 11am. I got on the Gatwick express and took the tube to Westminster. Bearing in mind that the clip is taken from the middle of the day, around 4pm, and I left the chamber at 10pm.

“Did I have a wee nap? Yes I did, guilty as charged.

“If the member of the public wants to contact me, I’m happy to speak with them.

“Compare the time that I’m awake and that wee moment of nap, I’ve got my eyes open when the minister replies from the dispatch box so I was asleep for a wee second.”

In December 2017, a photo emerged appearing to show Mr Grant asleep in Parliament during a debate on pensions equality for women.
