VOLUNTEERS at Crosshouse Hospital have presented a cheque for £275,000 to NHS Ayrshire and Arran.

They made the donation at the Volunteers AGM on June 26 taking the total amount raised by the volunteers since March 2001 to £4m.

David Gray, the Chairman of the Volunteers’ Committee, opened the AGM by acknowledging the efforts of the hundreds of volunteers.

Dr Martin Cheyne, Chairman of the Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board, thanked the volunteers on behalf of the organisation for their commitment and hard work in raising such a large sum of money.

Since 2001, the Hospital Volunteers have been working throughout the hospital running the shop, café and ward trolley service and in 2006 they opened a small café/shop in the Ayrshire Maternity Unit. Funds raised last year has been used in a number of ways to benefit both patients and staff.
