COMMUNITY spirit in Sanquhar extends to the animal population of Clark’s Little Ark in the town.

The team at the family favourite attraction have been overwhelmed by three recent donations which will help with new facilities for the animals and young visitors to the much-loved centre.

Alison Shankly started off with a small piece of land at the former Sanquhar Brickworks which developed into the current Clark's Little Ark, named after her 19-year-old son who tragically died from cerebral palsy.

She said: "We would like to say a huge thank you to the ladies from Amey Cleaning charity team, who worked extremely hard putting on a very enjoyable night at Wallace Hall Academy with entertainer Marc James Entertainer which raised £720 for Clark’s Little Ark.

"Our team really appreciated the ladies thinking of Clark’s Little Ark as well as all the hard work that they put in before, on and after the event. Big thanks also to Sanquhar Community Council who donated a micro grant of £200 that will be used to provide a secure, safe fenced area for the goats to graze.

"Finally, a huge thank you to HM Prison Dumfries for providing the small animals at Clark’s Little Ark with several, lovely new homes, complete with a play park which includes a maze, see-saw and tunnels.

"The Ark were also delighted to receive a beautiful wooden horse, called Troy, which has proved very popular with the young visitors. As well as being able to sit on Troy, there is also an opportunity for youngsters to learn how to put his saddle and bridle on.

"A small farm shop was also donated and once the yard work is finished, the shop will be set up with pretend produce so that youngsters can have fun whilst learning at the same time. All these items were made from recycled wood and will be of huge benefit to both visitors and animals.

"The Friends of Clark’s Little Ark are extremely grateful to HM Prison Dumfries for their help and support. It is very much appreciated."
