SANQUHAR Town Hall committee raised over £1,000 from their Strawberry Fayre on Sunday, July 1.
It was the first fundraiser the committee has staged and the community of Upper Nithsdale turned out in force to show their support.
Ticket sales, a raffle, tombola and donations helped them raise £1,163.32 which will be used to help secure the future of the town hall.
Committee member Andrew McDowall Jnr said: “This is a great start for our new venture. We, the committee, would like to thank everyone who has support us with this event, from handing in donations to helping out.
“A special mention to Iris for donating the ice cream, Tesco for donating the strawberries and local businesses and the public who donated prizes. This event has highlighted to us that community spirit within Upper Nithsdale is thriving and highlights what we can do when we all pull together as a community.
“Our next step as a committee is took look into other fundraising events and to take into consideration your views which have been collated in the suggestions box from Sunday.
“I am also pleased to announce that our application to the Scottish Charity Regulator has been successful and we are now a registered charity (SC048508). Thanks again to everyone who has supported this event, we are overwhelmed with everyone’s support. Please keep an eye out for our next fundraising event.”
