Mauchline and District Young Farmers Club have raised over £14,000 for charity as part of their 75th anniversary celebrations.

Cheques were presented to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland, Ayrshire Cancer Support and RSABI after they smashed their initial target of raising enough money to build a tower of £1 coins as tall as the Burns Monument.

The group held a range of fundraising activities in 2017 before their Finale Dinner Dance at Ayr Racecourse in February.

A spokesperson for Mauchline YFC said: “Our target was building a tower of £1 coins the height of the Burns Monument which, if achieved, would be over £7,000. We exceeded this total by raising more than double and being able to give a generous amount to our chosen charities.

“We have also given an amount of money to the current young farmers club to ensure they can continue for the next 25 years and reach the 100th milestone.

“Everyone involved in the past years celebrations has thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the committee would like to thank all involved for making the 75th year an amazing celebration.”
