A NEW community hub has opened in Cumnock to improve services in the voluntary sector.

The Council of Voluntary Organisations East Ayrshire (CVO) have set up the hub – called Cumnock and Doon Valley Community Routes – on Townhead Street as the aim to do more outreach work and provide support for voluntary sector organisations.

Lucy Gordon, CVO third sector co-ordinator, said: “We have leased the shop unit at 46 Townhead St, Cumnock, to set up a new community hub. Named Cumnock and Doon Valley Community Routes, the new premises will allow us to do more outreach work to provide our range of services and opportunities to support community groups, charities, voluntary organisations and agencies in the area to further develop community capacity and community involvement, and to bring more services into the area.

“We are already working with Cumnock Senior Citizens to host their morning tea and toast activities and with Buns R Us (Riverside Centre) to provide space and support for their work.

“The official opening day gave us the opportunity to meet with existing and potential new community groups to show them our facility to see how we can help their work, and to get their views on how we should develop the space to promote new community activity.”
