MEMBERS of Cumnock and District Round Table have spent a few nights clearing rubbish from the Glaisnock Water recently.
The group received funds from the Community Action Plan to purchase waders and they have put them to good use. On the first night they cleared rubbish from Gorbals Bridge around the Crossriggs car park and Greenholm up to Townhead Bridge.
A pick-up full of bottles, plastic and other rubbish was filled. On the second night the members were joined by a few local volunteers, and they cleaned the burn from Gorbals Bridge down to Meetinghouse Bridge.
On this stretch they unearthed signs, pipes, trolleys, bicycles and other lumps of metal in addition to bottles and cans.
The members will be back in action soon, working on the Lugar Water from the Woodroad down to the by-pass bridge and the upper stretches of the Glaisnock as far as the Glaisnock Viaduct.
Visit Cumnock Round Table’s Facebook page for updates on the clean-up work.
