ANOTHER successful Big Lunch was held by the Cumnock Action Plan team.

That was until Mother Nature intervened at Woodroad Park, but the day went well despite the enforced early finish.

Lots of activities were set up for the young visitors, with Cumnock’s rugby and football clubs helping out, as well as a group from Yip World.

One of them, Gordon Armstrong, spoke to the Chronicle, saying: “It has been a good day and we have organised a few things for children of all ages. We have been engaging with the young people and letting them know that we are open different nights for the various age groups.

“Being here today had enabled us to let people know who we are and where they will find us.”

Among those enjoying the Big Lunch were councillors Jim McMahon and Jacqui Todd.

Mr McMahon said: “It is fantastic what the Action Plan group is doing and how it is keeping its focus in highlighting events in Cumnock as well as making people aware of where improvements are needed.

“They are listening to the views of what people want and it is great to see the groups here today - it’s community involvement.

“We might have only got a couple of hours today but the Action Plan guys deserve great recognition.”

Neil Given of the Cumnock Action Plan added: “We carried out a community consultation at The Big Lunch regarding the site at Tower Street.

“We were looking for people’s thoughts on what the area is like just now. And also some ideas on how to improve the area.

“We will also be doing more consultation over the next few weeks. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and look out for us around the town.

“Thanks to Yip world, Cumnock Juniors Community Enterprise and Cumnock Rugby Club for providing fun games. And thanks to everybody who came along on Saturday.”
