THE first part of a £1.5m resurfacing programme on the A76 gets underway this weekend.

A 1km stretch of the road will be closed at Crockroy near Kirkconnell from 7pm tonight until 6am on Monday.

Two further overnight closures will take place from 7pm to 6am on Monday, June 11 and Tuesday, June 12 in order to complete the £236,000 project.

There are limited diversion options for larger vehicles so the recommended alternative routes are likely to add several minutes to journeys.

Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ’s principal road design engineer said: “This is the first project in a summer programme of investment for the A76. The trunk road, one of the most exposed in South West Scotland, has been significantly affected by repeated freeze-thaw cycles during a prolonged winter. Scotland TranServ is accelerating a number of projects to address these carriageway defects.

“We’ve been working with local authorities and key stakeholders to schedule these improvement works to be delivered with as little disruption on the communities as possible. The weekend closure will be necessary to carry out this lengthy resurfacing scheme as efficiently as possible.”
