A firefighter from Dalmellington has celebrated his retirement after 35 years in the service.

Russell Napier was based at Dalmellington Community Fire Station as the retained watch manager before retiring at the end of April and the crew at Dalmellington have thanked him as a valued member of the unit.

Group manager Alan Coughtrie said: “Russell’s 35 years as a member of the fire and rescue service is an exemplar of the dedication and commitment provided by our retained colleagues in protecting our local communities.

“Russell’s professionalism and his contribution as a member at Dalmellington will be a loss to his unit but will leave behind colleagues who have benefited greatly from his experience.”

On behalf of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and his colleagues, area manager Jim Scott presented Russell with gifts as a thank you for his long servitude.

Dalmellington crew manager John Barry McLatchie was also presented with a 20 year Long Service and Good Conduct medal.
