CONGRATULATIONS to the pupils of Sanquhar Primary, who were successful at two events.

They excelled in the singing, bag-piping and recitation categories of the Regional Burns Competition held in Dumfries Academy.

In P6/7 Bag-piping, Finley Baillie gained second place. His silver medal has given him a place at the national finals in Falkirk this month.

Ella McTeir gained a gold medal (first place) in both P4/5 Recitation and Singing. She will also be representing the region for both at the nationals.

Molly McTeir gained a gold medal for P6/7 recitation and third place in P6/7 singing, which means three children from Sanquhar Primary will be representing Dumfriesshire at the finals.

Head teacher, Victoria Hastie, said: “A huge well done to all the other children from the school that performed and received great marks from the judges.

“The success of all the children led to us winning the Best Primary School of the day and we would like to thank all involved —well done.”

There were even more achievements at the DDMFA poetry festival, also held in Dumfries Academy.

Mrs Hastie said: “All children had worked exceptionally hard to prepare and perform their poems. Many of the children gained first place winning trophies, while the others achieved certificates of commended performances, some with distinction and even a certificate of excellence.

“Sanquhar Primary would again like to thank Mrs. Forsyth and Miss McCron for their help in preparing the children.”
