DRIVERS in Mauchline were left dumbfounded after white lines were painted over debris on the B743.
The lines appeared just before the start of the Easter holidays painted over dirt, stones, twigs and leaves at the side of the road on the way to Sorn.
One road user stopped to get some photos as he couldn’t believe what he had seen. He told us: “I noticed the broken lines at the side of the road and I could see what looked like dirt that had been painted over.
“I stopped at the top of the hill and walked back to take a closer look. I couldn’t believe my eyes.
“They didn’t even bother to clear the road before they painted the lines.
“It’s disgusting. Why would you waste a day doing that? It’s a waste of public money and Ayrshire Roads Alliance should demand higher standards than that.
“How difficult would it be to get a road sweeper out or even a boy with a brush?”
Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA) issued a brief statement saying they were aware of the issue with the lines on the B743.
Their spokesperson said: “The Ayrshire Roads Alliance will ensure that the white lining on the B743 is reviewed by an inspector and appropriate action will then be taken.”
In February, East Ayrshire Council and ARA answered calls by Sorn Community Council to reinstate lines denoting the edge of some roads due to be resurfaced.
They painted temporary lines – some through potholes – to ensure the safety of road users.
