WILL and Jill are going up a hill, then another followed by yet another — all for charity.

The husband and wife team from Mauchline, Willie and Jillian Wyllie, are running 10 marathons in 10 days.

As well as the remarkable sense of achievement they will feel, they also aim to raise as much as possible for Alzheimer Scotland.

Having already conquered five in five days two years ago, they will double up starting on Saturday, April 14, until the final run on April 23.

Each route has been carefully plotted to measure the marathon length of 26.2miles while the latest technology will help them on their way.

Jill said: “We are using an app called Strava Route Builder and also Garmin watches for precise timing. Our routes are throughout East and South Ayrshire and we have been training in the gym for six, sometimes seven, days a week.

“We have been out on some of the routes we are going to be taking so it has been a bit like practice runs as we get used to the terrain. East Ayrshire is more hilly while South Ayrshire is mostly flat, but our 10 in 10 is all about maximum endurance and minimum pain.”

Money raised will go to Alzheimer Scotland, which Jill knows is a cause close to many people’s heart.

She said: “Everyone knows someone who is affected and I have come across people dealing with it when I worked as a speech therapist. We just want people to give what they can.”
