PUPILS from Patna and Dalmellington Primaries took centre stage as Education Scotland launched the new national singing framework Singing to Learn, Learning to Sing.

Schools from across Scotland took part in the event at the Royal Concert Hall with P5 and P6 pupils from the schools performing in partnership with Glasgow UNESCO City of Music and led by Christopher Bell, Artist Director of the National Youth Choir of Scotland.

The children performed four songs, one of which was composed specifically for the launch by Scottish singer and song writer Alan Beck. The framework has been developed by the Music Education Partnership Group, a collection of arts and education organisations, and it aims to provide support for practitioners to ensure there are regular opportunities for singing in all Scottish early learning and childcare settings and primary schools.

Gayle Gorman, Education Scotland Chief Executive, said: “Singing is an important contributor to the development of transferable skills across the curriculum and I look forward to seeing the resource being used in early learning and childcare settings and primary schools.

“As we celebrate the Year of Young People, I’m delighted that such a large number of pupils had the opportunity to take part in the singing lesson. Well done to those who took part.”
