MOTOR-SPORT enthusiasts will hit the road to Muirkirk on Gala weekend this year.

Organisers of the popular Kames Classic Car Show, East Ayrshire Car Club, have worked with Muirkirk Gala Day Committee to make two major changes to the event.

Firstly the date has been moved from August to avoid clashing with several motorsport events, including a major one at Glasgow’s SSEC.

Secondly, it has been decided to run the show as part of the gala weekend of June 9 and 10.

Spokesman Robert Smith said: "As the two attractions use the same venue at Kames Motorsport Complex running both events on successive days will considerably reduce the work of erecting tents and other structures while offering stand-holders an extra day’s exposure to two different groups of spectators.

"The Gala Day has been held at Kames for three years and has proved a big hit with both villagers and visitors from all over the area.

"The change of date has also been made possible by the kind co-operation of the Hamilton Classic Car Show, in particular Gareth Walker."

Around 200 vehicles are expected at the Classic Show, expected to come from as far away as Fife, Glasgow, Galloway and Durham.

There are classes for Veteran and Vintage cars, Emerging Classics after 1990, Light Commercials, Military, Kit, Novelty, Custom and Competition Cars.

Mr Smith added: "The club would also like to hear from owners of all cars of note irrespective of age and this year we hope to invite owners of incomplete projects, to show the progress of their restorations to fellow enthusiasts."
