As the Beast from the East hit Glasgow and the surrounding areas this week, the heavy snow lead to several disruptions across the central belt, including the closure of every school.

Things are slowly beginning to return to normal, with train services back up and running and snow beginning to thaw in many areas.

Several local authorites in and around Glasgow have announced that their schools will be re-opening on Monday, while others are yet to confirm.

Renfrewshire Council and South Lanarkshire Council have announced that they expect EVERY school and nursery to open as usual on March 5.

Glasgow City Council have also said that they expect schools to return to normal.

However, they have added: "If there are any issues overnight that mean individual schools cannot open, we will update you in the usual way and as early as possible."

East Renfrewshire and North Lanarkshire schools and nurseries will open as usual tomorrow but staff are urging children to take care when travelling.

All East Dunbartonshire secondary schools will return on Monday, but not all primary schools.

They posted on social media: "All primary schools and local authority nurseries will be open tomorrow with the exception of Baldernock Primary School.

"To ease congestion in the surrounding areas, pupils will allowed to arrive up until 10am.

"Our teams have worked hard - assisted by the amazing efforts of some of our residents - to clear the pavements and areas near schools.

"We will continue to work throughout the night and into the early hours of tomorrow morning to tackle the roads and paths leading to our schools.

"Please be aware of the conditions and take care while travelling to school.

"Thanks for your patience, support and understanding during what have been challenging weather conditions."

West Dunbartonshire Council will be taking similar action with schools in the area.

They posted on social media: "Following extensive efforts by both our own teams and welcome assistance from parent volunteers, we have cleared a number of schools grounds.

As a result schools will open as usual with a flexible arrival time until 9.45am tomorrow. The decision to open has been taken based on the condition of the school premises.

"We are continuing to review Kilpatrick School due to the particular needs of pupils.

"Although the buildings are open, it is for parents and carers to consider the condition of the safe walking route to their school and decide whether or not to send their child.

"If your child is not attending tomorrow we would ask that you contact the school to let them know.

"All early learning centres will remain closed tomorrow. Parents and carers of ELCs should continue to monitor the page for further updates tomorrow.

"Breakfast clubs will not operate tomorrow."
