THIEVES got away with several valuable items after breaking into a shed in New Cumnock.

They targeted the property in Ashmark Avenue, sometime between February 11 and 17, and removed the hasp from the door.

It is the latest of several similar incidents in the area and other parts of East Ayrshire, prompting police to issue a warning.

Safer Communities officer PC Marshall said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have seen someone in the area acting suspiciously.

“Anyone with information about crime in local communities should contact us by calling 101. Or Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.”

A few simple precautions will reduce the chances of you becoming the next victim.

These include fitting a good quality padlock or mortice lock on the door, making sure hinges cannot be easily removed and that doors and panels of the shed are strong enough not to be kicked in or forced open.

Cover the shed or garage with a PIR security light. A light suddenly coming on is a good deterrent and should scare them away.

“If you wish further advice in relation to any security matters around your home including shed security then please contact your local Crime Prevention Officer on 101,” Mr Marshall added.
