A GROUP of school friends from Cumnock are preparing for their first foray into the Glasgow music scene.

Frontman Keir Mitchell, guitarist Ross Phillips, drummer Dylan Canniffe and bass guitarists Jamie Campbell, and latest addition Luke Colville make up the five-piece Frontiers and they visit King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut on March 31.

They have gigs coming up at the Cumnock Juniors Social Club on March 17 and the Royal Hotel on April 1 and Keir explained how the band came to be and what they hope to achieve this year.

He said: “The Frontiers are a band that started out at Cumnock Academy a few years ago, practicing at each others houses and then playing at the juniors and performing our own material. Our music is classed as indie rock, like the Artic Monkeys, Oasis, that kind of thing.

“We’re playing King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut on March 31. It’s a big event, especially when you think of all the people that have played their before. We’re trying to get the tickets sold just now and there will be a bus running. It will be good to see family and friends going up.

“The next day, Easter Sunday, we’re playing at the Royal Hotel in Cumnock. It’s a decent event, they always put a band on and there will be a few hundred people there. It’s a big one for us, with us being from Cumnock.

“We’re looking to break out into the Glasgow scene. There’s a lot of opportunities out there and we’ve been asked to play a couple of places already but nothing has been confirmed yet.”

The group are also preparing their first EP, while both of the band’s singles – Wake Up and Let’s Go – are out now, with new material currently being demoed for the EP.

Keir added: “I think it will be about June time for our EP. We didn’t realise how long it would take, but there will be four singles on the EP. We were on the verge of calling it after one of the singles but decided to call it The Frontiers. It’s a bit of advertising and promotion of our name as well.”
