A PASSENGER has relived the moment a routine bus journey turned into a horror trip.

Jess Whiteford revealed that there have been numerous attacks and it was no surprise when Stagecoach withdrew services into an area of Patna.

Ms Whiteford said: “I was on the bus that came through Patna just before 9pm on Friday, February 2.

“Those responsible had blocked the road using plastic fencing panels that had obviously been removed from nearby road works, then stood across the road stopping the bus from getting past after the driver got out to clear it — thankfully the bus kept moving and they jumped out of the way as it got closer.

“Then they started pelting the bus with stones/bricks as it passed.

“I have been on previous buses where they run up the side of the bus as it slows to go over the speed bump beside Patna shops and they cut the engine and then they throw stones/rocks while the driver restarts the bus.

“The drivers have taken so much abuse, this has been going on now since late summer last year and “It’s amazing no-one has been badly injured.”

An ongoing investigation is being carried out by police with nearby CCTV images being pored over as the net closes in on the attackers, officers confirmed yesterday (Tuesday).

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101 or via Crimestoppers at 0800 555111, where calls are free of charge and can be made anonymously.

One frustrated regular user of the 52 service, which has been the constant target of the attacks, added: “The parents know what’s happening and ultimately the blame rests at their door, if they were faced with fines or eviction for repeated offenders they would have to sit up and take notice.

“Right now parents get into more bother for taking their kids away on holiday during term time at school than if their wee angels tries to put a bus window through and creates havoc for a local community.”

Meanwhile, Stagecoach are working with local police to put an end to the attacks.

A spokeswoman said: “Police were informed of the incident and provided immediate assistance which has so far prevented any further acts of vandalism against these services.”
