IT WAS the end of an era in Mauchline town centre this week as the ageing community centre was razed to the ground.

The facility was once the epicentre of community activity with children’s parties, community council meetings, anniversaries and Sunday school lessons having taken place over the years.

The building had seen better days but the opening of the Centre Stane in the old library has heralded the beginning of a new era for the town.

One year ago, East Ayrshire Council and Mauchline Community Association held discussions before an open event in the community centre paved the way for the Centre Stane which opened less than 10 months later.

However the site is likely to remain of use to the community, as it has been identified as a potential site for social housing.
