PASSENGERS were left terrorised after a gang set up a roadblock and pelted a bus with rocks in Patna.

Following the horror attack on February 2, Stagecoach withdrew services.

In a statement they said: “Due to gangs of youths in Patna setting up road blocks and pelting the buses with rocks, we have had no option but to withdraw the service to Patna scheme for the rest of the evening on safety grounds.”

Inspector Colin Shearer said: “Investigations are ongoing and I would ask any witnesses to contact Cumnock Police Office on 101.

“This incident had a major impact on users of the service who were put at risk by those responsible.”

Now community leaders are fighting back against the menace on their doorstep.

Patna Community Council and elected members have put the matter at the top of their agenda when they meet this week.

They were poised to discuss the crisis at a meeting last night (Tuesday).

Councillor for the area, John Bell, has also urged residents to help police catch the culprits.

He said: “Like other elected members, I am extremely concerned by the behaviour of a hooligan minority in Patna. Police have stepped up patrols. It is hoped that officers can apprehend those responsible and normal services be resumed.”

Mr Bell urged anyone with information to contact the police on 101, or through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 where calls can be made anonymously.

Service 52 has been plagued by anti-social behaviour and Stagecoach had previously withdrew services to Patna in the evening, due to ‘persistent vandalism’ on its buses.

A spokeswoman for Stagecoach West Scotland said: “Our service 52 to Patna was attacked by vandals on Friday evening. Damage was caused to the vehicle but thankfully no one was injured as a result of this incident.

“In the interest of staff and passenger safety the services were withdrawn from the Patna scheme for the remainder of the evening.

“The police were informed of the incident and provided immediate assistance which has so far prevented any further acts of vandalism against these services.”
