PASSENGERS who will be using the revamped Cumnock Bus Station can have a say in its design.

An online consultation, which was launched in November 2017, will culminate with two public events being held in Cumnock Town Hall.

The first of these takes place on Thursday, February 8, in the Keir Hardie Room at the town hall between 3pm and 7pm.

Then, with the February 28 deadline for the consultation looming, a similar drop-in session has been arranged on Wednesday, February 21, with the same hours of 3pm to 7pm.

A spokeswoman for East Ayrshire Council said: “The exciting new plans for the revamp of Cumnock’s Bus Station were revealed in the public consultation on the council’s website.

“And now, as that consultation draws to a close, the public and interested parties are being invited to the public events this Thursday and February 21, to allow everyone to view and discuss the plans with the planners and officials who are overseeing the new project.

“There will be a chance to view the plans and provide feedback on the proposed development include landscaping, state of the art electronic information boards and CCTV, all designed to make use of the station as comfortable and safe as possible for the travelling public.”

Councillor Jim Roberts says the refurbishment of the bus station is a continuation of the regeneration of Cumnock.

He added: “It’s now time to address the bus station following the renovation of many of our historic buildings, the demolition of outdated 1970s buildings, and the building of new shop units. The Town Hall and local hotels have also undergone massive transformations.

“It’s important that our plans address the needs of the passengers who will use it, so that’s why we’re seeking views, to help us to finalise the design.

“Many passengers from Cumnock travel into Kilmarnock Bus Station too, so we’d recommend taking time to take part in the consultation.”
