YOUNG Burnsian Rowan Hastie had a week to remember when she was invited to perform at two major events.

Sanquhar’s superstar took part in a Burns Supper staged by a commercial radio station on Saturday, January 20 and broadcast on Thursday, January 25.

Eleven friends and family joined Rowan at the event when she performed The Rights Of Women, which is a very topical poem at the moment.

She was then asked to take part in the Presiding Officer’s Burns Supper at Scottish Parliament on Wednesday, January 24.

Rowan, accompanied by her mum and dad, travelled to Edinburgh to join the many MSPs and guests also attending on of the social occasions of the year at Holyrood.

Another memorable evening was enjoyed by all. and Rowan was grateful to Oliver Mundell MSP for putting her name forward to perform.

She finished off the week by performing at The Holiday Inn, Dumfries for Dumfries Burns Club on Saturday, January 27.

Her mum Victoria said: “These experiences will never be forgotten and Rowan would like to thank each and every person who has helped her along the way so far.

“A wee mention should go to her brother Lauchlan who has been to every competition, concert and Burns Supper — when able). He is her number one fan.

“Another special mention to a very special lady, Lynn Forsyth, who not only works with Rowan but with many children and young adults to help them reach their full potential. Thank you so much.”

Proud mum Victoria says one of Lynn’s favourite quotes sums up what a memorable week Rowan enjoyed.

She added: “Then catch the moments as they fly; And use them as ye aught man; Believe me, happiness is shy; And comes not aye when sought man’ “It comes from A Bottle and a Friend by Robert Burns. What appropriate sentiments for Rowan this week.”
