A MAN has been slapped with a fine for driving whilst under the influence of alcohol.

Scott McKelvie, of Coyle Avenue, Drongan, admitted to driving on Holmston Road, Ayr on October 29, 2017 after consuming so much alcohol that he was almost four times the limit.

The 31-year-old appeared before Sheriff John Montgomery at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

Procurator Fiscal, Jason Bell, explained: “At around 4.30pm, police received information about a male driving along Holmston Road. The male was observed driving towards the A77 when he was stopped by the police, smelling of alcohol.

“The police then carried out a road side breath test.”

Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor Ms Stewart, said: “My client had been out for dinner with a friend and was drinking beer. He made the wrong decision to drive.”

Sheriff Montgomery ordered McKelvie to pay a £400 fine and he was also disqualified from driving for 18 months.
