AN EX-PAT Scot has taken an Auchinleck girl’s photo to a whole new level.

Alex Henderson – who now lives and works in Canada – spotted Courtney McComb’s photo of the Afton Reservoir posted by her dad Craig on the Scotland from the Roadside Facebook page.

It was the 16-year-old’s first go at night photography with her dad and it got over 2,000 likes on the social media site.

Craig posted the photo on January 4 with the caption: “My 16 year old daughters photo from her first night shoot with me. First time doing night photography or any kind of photography with a DSLR Canon 500D and a £30 tripod.”

With Courtney’s blessing, Alex has now transformed it into an acrylic painting on the other side of the world.

Dad Craig – a keen photographer himself – was proud of the outcome. He said: “Long story short, I posted a photo – regarding my daughter and her first time doing night photography – on a Facebook group, Scotland by the Roadside. It received over 2,000 likes.

“A Canadian artist then contacted her to ask permission to paint the scene. He’s now finished it and posted it online.

“It’s kind of cool that an artist in Canada has commissioned a painting of the Afton Reservoir by my daughter.”

On the other side of the Atlantic, Alex has produced a number of works from photos posted on the page.

He said: “l am member of the Facebook page Scotland from the Roadside.

“I have requested permission from a few photographers that post their pics on the site. When Courtney posted her photo and the response to it was over the top, l felt it would look good as an acrylic on canvas.

“So l asked permission and you can see the result. One of my other works from the group was a Beverly Thain photo of the Puffin’s head which had won a mention at the Scottish Seabird Society.

“I am Scottish, born in Edinburgh, and I came to live in Canada after serving with the Royal Scots Greys in 1968.”
