CUMNOCK and Doon Valley's representative in Holyrood is backing a campaign by Age Scotland to help older people keep warm and safe this winter.

Jeane Freeman, MSP for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley, has teamed up with the charity to distribute free thermometers to her constituents.

The project – funded by the Scottish Government – aims to tackle poor health and fuel poverty, especially among older people, by including top tips on staying warm and saving on fuel bills.

SNP MSP, Ms Freeman said: “The thermometer door hangers are a smart way to help people stay warm and healthy this winter. Cold weather can seriously worsen existing health conditions, especially among older people, and put you at greater risk of flu, respiratory and circulatory diseases.

“This is a great way to make sure you are keeping your living areas at the optimum temperature. At the same time, a few simple tips can help you conserve energy and stay on top of your fuel bills.

“I’d encourage any constituent who would like one to contact my office on 01290 425 876 or email me at jeane.freeman.msp@parliament.scot.”

Keith Robson, Age Scotland’s charity director, added: “We’re delighted that Jeane is supporting our Warm and Well campaign this winter. As temperatures drop, it’s vital that we all take steps to stay healthy, as well as looking out for the older and more vulnerable people in our communities.”
