BURNS House Museum in Mauchline will be celebrating the birthday of the Bard on Saturday, January 27 and Sunday, January 28 with another fantastic weekend of events for all the family.
Now in its third year, this celebration of the life of Robert Burns in Mauchline continues to grow in popularity, bringing together local communities and visitors to the area to celebrate our national Bard.
Come along and join in the fun at another weekend of visual art workshops, storytelling, poetry, kirkyard tours, talks and much more, and to close the celebrations there will be a very special performance of a well-known Burns poem by students of Mauchline Primary School’s P6 class on the Sunday.
The event is being funded by the Scotland’s Winter Festivals event fund, which is managed by EventScotland on behalf of the Scottish Government. It will run from noon to 4pm on both days and admission is free.
The weekend is also part of Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018 celebration, where Scotland puts its young people in the spotlight, celebrating their talents, contributions and creating new opportunities for them to shine during a year-long programme of events and activities.
Dr Alasdair Allan, Minister for International Development and Europe, said: “Burns Night is undoubtedly one of Scotland’s most well-known and best loved national days, celebrated by millions around the world.
“Burns is one of our favourite icons and he encapsulates the very essence of being Scottish – creativity, pride and confidence. Each new year millions of people from all corners of the world join hands and come together to sing ‘Auld Lang Syne’ together, perhaps Burns’ best known contribution.
“Every year on January 25, the day of his birth, Scots, and Scots at heart remember the life and cultural legacy of Burns by hosting a Burns Supper. Glasses of whisky are raised in toast and haggis is addressed like no other food, it is a wonderful opportunity to come together in celebration.
“With Mauchline playing such an important role in Burns’ life, it’s a fitting place to celebrate the Bard with a fantastic programme of poetry, music and visual art.”
