TWO people including a child were taken to hospital after a two-car crash near Cumnock.

It happened just before 3.30pm at Station View, Skares, on Sunday, January 7, with emergency services deployed to the scene.

One man suffered neck and back injuries while the young girl was left with a badly bruised face — both ended up in Ayr Hospital.

Firefighters from Cumnock were in attendance and made the scene safe for ambulance and police personnel to deal with the casualties and debris.

Sunday’s smash was the third in as many days that local crews were called out to, with cutting gear put into operation at one incident.

This was just after 9am at Waterside, Patna, when they were joined by colleagues from Ayr after a vehicle left the road in icy conditions on Friday, January 5.

They freed a trapped woman by removing the roof of her vehicle using specialist hydraulic equipment — she was then taken to Ayr Hospital with lower back injuries.

Just 90 minutes previously, Dalmellington firefighters also joined forces with a crew from Ayr after an oil tanker crashed off the A713 near Patna, landing on its side.

Police closed the busy road between Ayr and Dalmellington for several hours as a recovery operation was put in place.

No-one was injured and the fire crews isolated a small leak from the tanker’s fuel tank before the road re-opened after it had been gritted.
