A WONDERFUL gesture in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support was made by Susan Parker.

Her friends at Route 76 in Mauchline provided the setting for her to join the Macmillan Cancer Brave the Shave campaign.

Susan is exceptionally brave having her crowning glory shaved off as winter approaches but she is doing it in memory of some people close to her In particular, her dear friend Isabell McMichael, and also Linda Steel, Dave Bates, Frankie Kelly and Franziska Hall.

Photographer Andy Bennie was there to capture the drama as Susan’s locks fell to the floor.

He said: “Susan is a very special person who always goes the last mile to help other people so having seen the pain and suffering people go through and how generous the MacMillan nurses are.

“She felt that was her duty to give to them as much assistance as she always could it is a big thing for any woman to have there hair shaved off for this is their pride and joy she is a very loving lady with a heart of gold — well done Susan.”

An original target of £200 on bravetheshave.macmillan.org.uk has been smashed with more than double that amount being donated so for, and Susan is delighted.

“I am doing this instead of running a marathon in support of people in my family who have had breast cancer and survived.

“I myself have had a couple of scares and want to help other men and woman in the future. There are so many types of cancer, too many to name, but I am grateful I can do this.”
