AN AUCHINLECK manufacturer has become one of the first in the UK to be awarded an new international standard for its commitment to the environment.
EGGER Barony is one of two of the firm’s UK plants that have been awarded ISO 14001:2015 to recognise the company’s environmental management systems. The site achieved the new rating after a rigorous, external auditing programme and the company demonstrated its ongoing environmental commitments throughout their manufacturing processes.
EGGER’s environmental, health and safety manager, Paul Turner, said: “EGGER is extremely focused on reducing its environmental impact and achieving the new standard underlines this."
Heiko Lichtblau, EGGER Barony director technical/production, added: “This ties in extremely well with our company mission of creating more from wood. At EGGER we operate a closed-loop cycle for chipboard production, this means very little waste is generated in our manufacturing processes."
EGGER, the UK’s largest chipboard manufacturer, has recently invested over £3 million into highly energy-efficient plant machinery and processes to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels at the plant in Auchinleck.
Dr Keith Lloyd Jones, lead auditor at Exova BM TRADA Certification Ltd congratulated the company.
EGGER on achieving the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System Certification at its Barony site. Throughout my dealings with the company I have found them to be thoroughly dedicated to minimising the impact their activities have on the environment, and the latest standard certainly enhances this commitment.”
