STAFF have settled back to normality at Dumfries House after another royal visit— if there is such a thing at such a diverse venue.

A whirlwind two days started with a star-studded celebration which included a live radio broadcast reaching all of the UK, and more online.

Presenters Myleene Klass and Aled Jones were joined by students of Glasgow’s Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Their link with Dumfries House provides high-quality performing arts to the nearby community in the form of regular performances and education programmes.

Another VIP guest, President Michael Higgins of Ireland, was welcomed as were hundreds of local people for a garden party and tea dance next day.

One group of young residents from the area always have a few words with the Duke of Rothesay when he calls, members of the Police Scotland Youth Volunteers team.

Both he and the Duchess then enjoyed meeting everyone at the party and dance as well as the annual Dumfries House Dog Show.

Best In Show was was won by Lexie, owned by eight-year-old Emily Love, a pupil at Greenmill Primary School — the first time her prize pooch had taken part in any contest.

It was a perfect way to celebrate Dumfries House, with a spokesman singing the Prince’s praises for all he has done, including the visit of Charles and Camilla.

They said:“The Prince has transformed the estate to help people engage in learning experiences that promote confidence and personal development, as well as offer training in real-life skills to open up future employment opportunities. The Prince and The Duchess mixed with guests of a special anniversary garden party in the Queen Elizabeth Walled Garden, including members of the Sewing Bee, then met youngsters at a kids’ tea party before awarding prizes at the Dog Show taking place on the estate’s Duchess of Rothesay Avenue.

“Their Royal Highnesses then entertained guests at a Duchy Originals dinner at Dumfries House to mark the 25th anniversary of The Prince’s organic food brand. From modest beginnings, Dumfries House is now the second-largest employer in East Ayrshire with over 200 full-time and part-time staff.”
