ROUNDING off their visit to Cumnock, the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay met hundreds of local people at a host of events, including a tea dance, which takes place every three weeks as part of Dumfries House’s Integrated Health and Wellbeing programme and is run in conjunction with East Ayrshire Council’s Vibrant Communities service.

The Prince and The Duchess then mixed with guests of a special anniversary garden party in the Queen Elizabeth Walled Garden, including members of the Sewing Bee, which forms part of the Future Textiles programme based in the Atelier of Dumfries House.

The Royal couple then met youngsters at a kids’ tea party before awarding prizes at the Dog Show taking place on the estate’s Duchess of Rothesay Avenue.

Eight-year-old Emily Love, a pupil at Greenmill Primary School, was delighted when her pet dog Lexie won Best In Show.

She said: “It was really good to meet Prince Charles and Camilla. They were really nice and asked me lots of questions about Lexie.

“This was the first time Lexie has ever taken part in a competition so I was really surprised when he won.

“I came along last year and watched some friends take part then decided to enter this year’s show as it looked like fun. Lexie won a big bag of dog food, too.”
