CUMNOCK Age Concern are looking for people willing to help out for just a few hours each month.

To help ensure the group carries on with the good work that they do, an event has been arranged in Cumnock Town Hall.

It takes place at 1.30pm on Wednesday, September 20 and will combine a social occasions with an appeal for people to come forward.

Community worker Ciss McCreadie said: "Cumnock Age Concern organise a summer trip, Christmas dinner/hampers as well as many other activities.

"Without the vital help of those able to go door to door or volunteer on the committee to assist with funding and organising the activities the group find themselves in a position where they may need to dissolve."

As well as finding out what the group does and how the community can help, the event is an opportunity for those in Cumnock aged 60 and over to go along and enjoy some entertainment, soup, sandwiches and cakes.

Ciss added: "We arrange trips away, provide local entertainment and social activities for those who would otherwise be isolated in the community.

"We are looking for individuals, of all ages, who are willing to spare a few hours each month to plan and organise two to three activities over the course of the year.

"So as well as organising this event for over 60s, this is also an appeal for support from local people. Places for the meal are limited and anyone interested should contact me on 01292 552936 to book."

Age Concern is now part of the Age Scotland group of campaigning charities that strives to improve the quality of life for older residents.

Chairman of the board of trustees is the Rt. Hon. Lord Foulkes of Cumnock, formerly George Foulkes who was the area's MP.
