A MAN was found hanging outside his bedroom window, in Catrine, by police who had been made aware of the situation by a witness.

Lee Nicol, of Newton Street, obstructed and hindered three police constables when they arrived at the property and struggled with them violently.

The incident took place last month on Shawlands Street when Nicol also attempted to headbutt one of the officers.

The 23-year-old appeared before Sheriff Desmond Leslie at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

Depute fiscal, Jacob Tomnay, said: “The offence occurred in July. Police were called to the property and found the accused in the bedroom.

“He was hanging out the window. He managed to escape but was later found. He shouted f**k and get to f**k to the officers.

They repeatedly tried to get him on the ground.

“Hand cuffs were applied but he attempted to pull away and lunged forward to prevent arrest.

Nicol was very intoxicated.”

Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor, Derek Pettigrew said: “He is a 23-year-old man and his difficulties have been highlighted in the report.

“It is not a good report as he has not been in a good place.

He is quite contrite today and appears to have taken steps to address his problems. He does not have a bad attitude.”

Sheriff Leslie interrupted: “He does have a bad attitude towards the police.”

Mr Pettigrew responded: “Yes there is no doubt about that. A bit of hard work will no doubt do him some good.”

Addressing the dock, Sheriff Leslie, said: “You displayed a negative attitude to the police who were called for a purpose to keep you and and members of the community safe.

“They do not need this level of aggression.”

Nicole has been placed on a community payback order and will be under supervision for one year. He will also complete 150 hours of unpaid work within six months.
