A CUMNOCK artist is set to exhibit his work at Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow next month.

Michael Flynn’s The Faded Lady, which captures the old Cumnock Picture House, will be on display at the gallery from September 1 to September 30.

Now based in Glasgow, Michael hopes it will be nostalgic for the people who used the cinema.

He said: “For me, like many people of a certain age in the Cumnock area, this was a much loved iconic Art Deco building which I`m sure will provide a wealth of many fond memories.

“Now faded into the past, it was my ambition to paint it in a personal atmospheric style, and to display one of my favourite old buildings back then in one of my favourite old buildings of today.

“I am a freelance artist but I work in Kelvingrove for my bread and butter.

“The staff put on a exhibition last year and we are doing the same this year so my painting will be on display for a month.”

Michael’s work is headed for Italy in November but the building also played a big part in Michael’s past.

He added: “My mother used to work there and she met my dad there.

“The image is ghostly.

“I painted it from a picture in an old Cumnock book where I was able to put my own style on it.”
