A FOOTBALL match in New Cumnock was marred after supporters let off smoke bombs.

The incident occurred during Glenafton Athletic’s 7-0 win over Craigmark Burntonians in the Ardagh Glass Sectional League Cup on Wednesday, August 23.

Craigmark supporters are alleged to have brought the smoke bombs into Glenafton’s Loch Park before letting them off during the first half.

Glen’s secretary John Stewart said after the match: “We contacted the police and they arrived at half time. They talked to us about the licence and to see if there was no drinking.

“With this incident, we didn’t know who it was and we couldn’t identify who it was. Nobody admitted it and we can’t search anyone. It wasn’t on the park which is the main thing.

“It happened to us in the cup final but someone did get arrested for it and they have been barred for life from the club.”

Representatives from Craigmark said they felt there was nothing wrong with the incident but declined to make further comment.

SJFA West regional secretary Scott Robertson added: “It was Craigmark supporters who let off the smoke bombs so the club will be reminded of the rules and the matter will be dealt with by the West Region.”
