A PREGNANT teenager who told two refugees they ‘didn’t deserve a place in the country’ has been told her behaviour is ‘disgusting’.

Caitlyn Little, of Glaisnock Street, shouted racial and abusive remarks outside their home in Cumnock and repeatedly shouted and swore at them in April this year.

The 18-year-old appeared before Sheriff Desmond Leslie at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

The court heard how the incident took place at 8pm and was caught on CCTV.

Depute Fiscal Andrew Lazzarin explained: “A congregation of youths were outside the home [of the complainers’].

“The remarks made against them were ‘go home you f***ing immigrants. Immigrants you don’t deserve a place in the country.

“The group which gathered were between 19 and 20. One of the complainer’s knows the accused through a friend.”

Speaking on her behalf, defence solicitor, Gregor Forbes, said: “This is by no means an excuse my Lord but both the complainer and her had been in an argument, which is why she acted in this way.”

Sheriff Leslie asked: “Was this a lynch mob?”

Mr Forbes replied: “There are two or three which are part of a larger group. Ms Little is due to give birth in September and is unfit to do unpaid work.

“A restriction of liberty order may be more appropriate as she is pregnant. There is one other matter outstanding which is due to go to trial in October.

“The family are known to the social services. It is probably best for the court to keep an eye on her.”

Addressing the the dock, Sheriff Leslie, said: “This is disgusting behaviour to gather outside someone’s house and use this language.

“You don’t seem to think there is anything wrong with that, that it was perfectly acceptable for you to do what you did and talk to people the way you did talk to them. Have you changed your mind?”

Little replied: “I don’t know.”

Sheriff Leslie continued: “This is completely and totally unacceptable and you must understand that.

“For a number of reasons, you will not go to jail but my initial reaction to this matter is that you should.

“You will be on a structured deferred sentence and bail will be continued for three months and then I will decide how best to deal with you.”

Sentence has been deferred to allow the court to obtain reports.
