JOBSEEKERS can take a step in the right direction when a jobs fayre sets up in Auchinleck.

Part of the Support to Engage Programme (STEP), actual vacancies will be on offer from various local employers.

More than 25 industries and services will be represented, all with jobs available, at the Boswell Centre on Wednesday, August 23, between 10am and 2pm.

STEP is a three-year project by Auchinleck Community Development Initiative (ACDI) in the village and nearby places including Muirkirk, Catrine and Logan and Lugar.

It supports people who experience long-term and multiple barriers to employment, with the aim of connecting them with new and additional job seeking services and ultimately accessing employment.

Launched in March last year, STEP begins to help clients the minute contact is first made by getting to know them and listening to their concerns.

By understanding and assessing each person’s circumstances, an individual success plan is created with an objective of gaining the skills and confidence required.

Members of the STEP team work with various partner organisations to identify options available before setting out a number of realistic and achievable actions.

A spokesman said: “Our first job is to listen and once we understand the client’s specific situation we will help them understand the journey, plan a route and access local — services, groups, support and training, all based around them, every part of the journey, every step of the way.”

With a combined population of 9,000, Auchinleck, Muirkirk, Catrine, Logan and Lugar, were badly affected by the demise of mining and the textiles industry.

Since starting out, STEP have strived to identify what barriers people face and helping them reach a positive destination and a brighter future.

ACDI spokesman, Stuart Mitchell, added: “Whether you’re looking for a new start or your first job, come along and find a job you want and get the help you need to apply.

“The STEP team look forward to welcoming everyone to our jobs fayre on Wednesday, August 23.
