ORGANISERS of Dunure Gala 2017 had that sinking feeling when it started raining last Saturday morning.

‘The Show Must Go On’ was the thought on everybody’s minds but their fears were unfounded as the sun came out and it stayed dry.

Residents and visitors also came out in their numbers to enjoy the various activities, and more than £3,000 has been raised for the upkeep of the village hall.

Also in attendance at Kennedy Park were a number of stallholders, including community groups, and voluntary organisations such as the RNLI and a team from St Andrew’s First Aid.

Young people were kept occupied with some great fun and games, including beat the goalie, netball throws, tug-of-war and some entertaining races.

A number of brave volunteers offered their services to have wet sponges thrown at them — there was no shortage of people happy to do the throwing.

Bargains galore were also unearthed, as our photographer Alister Firth found out as he toured the stalls.

Praiseworthy plants, brilliant books and commendable cakes were all on offer and snapped up by eager customers.

A spokeswoman for the organisers said: “We would like to thank everyone who helped or contributed to the day. Especially those who turned up and supported the gala — a massive thanks.”
